Water Treatment Biocide WTB-1

General

WTB-1 is a glutaraldehyde-based Water Treatment Biocide.

WTB-1 is a synergistic blend of glutaraldehyde, formaldehyde and other propriety active ingredients which combine the proven biocidal efficacy of glutaraldehyde with the surface active and bactericidal properties of other active additions.

WTB-1 broad-spectrum biocide is especially effective in controlling sulfate-reducing bacteria, slime-forming bacteria and algae in seawater injection systems, cooling towers and other recirculating water systems.

Uses

Drilling and Other Oilfield Fluids

WTB-1 biocide is excellent choices for use in preserving drilling muds and other oilfield fluids that are typically alkaline in pH to ensure microbial protection. The typical use rates of 25 to 500 ppm as active.

Water Flood Injection Water

WTB-1 biocide exhibits excellent stability in oilfield injection waters, which ensures that its antimicrobial activity will not be diminished in long pipelines. Hard waters or brines do not adversely affect its biocidal effectiveness (the active ingredient - glutaraldehyde is non-ionic so it won't interfere with the action of corrosion inhibitors or surfactants). WTB-1 biocide is typically slug dosed into the injection water on a daily or weekly basis at 50 to 2000 ppm active for 4 – 6 hours (the exact treatment regimen will depend on the condition of the system).

Produced Waters

The presence of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB's) and acid producing bacteria (APB's) presents a serious challenge for effective control of microbial contamination in a production system. Like its use in waterflood injection systems, WTB-1 biocide is typically added in slug doses on a daily to weekly basis at concentrations of 50 to 2000 ppm as active.

Hydrocarbon Storage Facilities

The water bottoms in hydrocarbon storage tanks can often be contaminated with SRB's and serve as hosts to biofilms that can lead to the formation of H2S and corrosion of hydrocarbon storage tanks. WTB-1 biocide preferentially partitions into the water phase in a mixed hydrocarbon/water system and so would attack any microorganisms that are present in these water bottoms.

Safety Precautions

Corrosive. CAUSES IRREVERSIBLE EYE

Causes skin burns. Harmful if inhaled. May be fatal if swallowed or absorbed through skin. Prolonged or frequently repeated skin contact may cause allergic skin reactions in some individuals. Causes asthmatic signs and symptoms in hyper-reactive individuals. Aspiration hazard. Can enter lungs and cause damage. Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause central nervous system effects; can cause death if too much is breathed

Handling and storage

Do not store in aluminum, carbon steel, mild steel, iron and copper. All equipment should be of corrosion resistant materials. Keep away from direct heat source and open flames. Container must be tightly closed when not in use.

Shelf-life: Use within 12 months

Packaging and References
