FCL is a multi purpose, ferro- chrome treated sodium lignosulfonate for
use in water base mud.
Application
FCL is used as a deflocculant and
filtration control agent at alkaline PH in water based system, including fresh,
salt and calcium treated water base mud. FCL provide excellent thermal
stability for the control of rheological and filtration properties. FCL will
also inhibit the reactivity of clay solids when used in proper concentration.
FCL is commonly used to prevent salt flocculation of bentoniteand to reduce the effect of high temperature
gellation in bentonite fluids.
Recommended treatment
FCL treatment of 2.9 to 8.6 kg/m3(1
to 3 lb/bbl) arenormally sufficient for
deflocculant of fresh water system. Sea water muds may require levels of 11.4
to 17.1 kg/m3 (4 to 6 lb/bbl) for satisfactory control of fluid
properties. Optimum perfomence of FCL is obtained at PH from 9.5 10.5
adjusted by caustic soda.
