Soda Ash is also named Sodium Carbonate, Na2CO3.
Molecular weight is 106.
APPLICATION
Soda Ash is used to remove soluble calcium
salts from make-up water and mud.
CaSO4 + Na2CO3-> CaCO3 + Na2SO4
Soda Ash is not recommended for treatment
of cement contamination due to increase of pH.
Ca(OH)2 + Na2CO3-> CaCO3 + 2 NaOH
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT
Soda Ash should be added in 0.72 kg/m3
(0.25 ppm) increments until desired results are obtained. The exact amount of
Soda Ash required must be determined from the amount of calcium present in the
mud. Approximately 0.265 kg/m3 (0.093 lb/bbl) of Soda Ash is
required to precipitate 100 mg/l of calcium ion.
